One Day by David Nicholls

One Day. Too sad.

Emma and Dexter meet for the first time on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways. So where will they be on this one day next year? And the year after that? And every year that follows? Twenty years, two people, ONE DAY.

One Day was a sweet gift from my friend Z! She said it was a great read and hoped I’d like it. And I so wanted to. Really badly. But didn’t. That’s not to say I didn’t like it at all, because I did. I just really disliked Dex and thought Emma could have done sooooo much better than him. Then there was the ending! Oh my god the ending! I was sobbing my heart out after the ending after getting over my shock at what happens. This is why really I like romance books because they have happy endings. But I’m still glad I read One Day because it was beautifully written and I liked the way the author took the reader in too the lives of Dex and Emma on the same day every year to see how they lived their lives and how they lives connected and clashed. One Day is a beautiful read that touched my heart and will be living on my bookshelves for a good long while. Thanks Z, but next time no books that make me cry ok?

After seeing the film I just couldn't bring myself to read the book!! I'd definitely need the whole pack of tissues!

I can imagine the book is beautifully written though, maybe I could just skip the ending?
