Let’s Talk About Hair

My hair 2009/2010
There’s that quote on the back of Aussie shampoo saying that hair isn’t everything but it’s a good place to start. But for me, my hair is a really big deal. I think my hair is my biggest vanity. Before the summer of 2008 my hair was really long but I never really knew what to do with it other than curling and straightening it. So in 2008 when the pob was a big thing {& Ryan had gone to help his friends open their own pub & I wouldn’t get into trouble} I went to the hairdresser and had her cut off most of my hair. While I’d already emotionally said goodbye to my long locks it took me awhile to persuade my hairdresser to cut it all off. Even then she would only do it to my shoulders with the back a little shorter, as was the style. After that I grew it out for a while but the longer it got the less I knew what to do with it so in 2009 I lopped it off again {pictures on the right, the bottom one was summer 2009}. When we moved to Plymouth I grew it out a little but still kept it short to mid-length {pictures on the left circa 2010} eventually I just continued to let it grow.
My hair now 2013
These are pictures from this year, my hair is just a little shorter {I think} than it was before I cut it all off back in the summer of 2008. I generally only get my hair cut once or twice a year so it has really taken a loooong time for my hair to grow out. My main issue now is that I want my hair quite a bit longer for when we get married in 2015, but I’m already having the urges to loop it all off again or at least take a couple of inches off. But I have to keep myself set on the target of below boob level hair so I can curl it and it will fall at a decent length for our wedding.
But summer’s down here and Devon are so much warmer than in my hometown beside the sea, with lots of wind, so I have to find a way to deal with my hair. Before I got it cut in February, I usually plait it in some way to keep it off my face but I’ve had quite a few short layers put in this time and it’s making my plait’s look a little bit funny so I’ve been turning to pinterest for some inspiration.
Funnily enough, {or not really,} the topknot has been the biggest trend and while I’m still trying it out it’s not love. Partly because my hair is so thick trying to keep it on the top of my head is enough to give me a headache and second, I have a round face and think it makes it look even rounder!
I’m stockpiling designs via my hair inspiration board on pinterest until I find something I like or until finally my layers grow out, and I can to back to my cute braids.
