My morning routine is extremely flexible because of my chronic illness. Most nights I wake up at ridiculous times in pain and sometimes it can take hours to go back to sleep.
My alarm is always set for 8am which is usually when my husband gets up for work when he’s on the ‘normal’ shift. When he does an early his alarm is set for 6:30ish and I won’t even pretend I’ll get up then. Especially if I’ve had a bad night.
If I’ve had a really bad night I’ll turn my alarm off and stay in bed for up to another hour resting/napping depending how I feel.
If I had an ok night, I’ll roll out of bed, feed Evie her nuggets, use the bathroom splash some cool water on my face, moisturise and brush my teeth and hang out with my hubby until he leaves for work.
By 8:30 I let Evie out of her cage make a mug of peppermint tea and journal for about 30 minutes, which I’ve found can help clear my foggy head. Then I play Peak to get my brain going.
If I’m feeling well enough I’ll then make breakfast and check social media and my work calendar to see what work I have to do for the day. If I don’t feel well I’ll skip breakfast and have a hot water with lemon.
I don’t exercise in the morning because 80% of the time I don’t wake well and feel really rough and not up to it so I save that for later in the day. I’ll either do some light yoga at lunchtime or get my steps in by meeting my husband from work at the end of the day when I’m generally feeling more myself.
Nothing really exciting very simple and basic but it really works for me and I like the lack of stress with it and the flexibility for when I’m unwell.
